Banh mi nuong muoi ot (the grilled breads with chili salt) in Saigon has created a hot trend and other versions of banh mi (the bread) are also attracting the tourists loving Saigon cuisine.
Banh mi nuong muoi ot is the dish of Khmer people in the area of Bay Nui (An Giang). It becomes popular to the western area and a hot trend in Ho Chi Minh city recently. The bread is spread chili salt outside and baked in the coal stove. After that, this dish is added delicious ingredients such as cheese, sausage, scallions, hotdog and pate above instead of inside like in traditional bread. The price for this dish is 10,000VND and you can find it in Le Quang Sung street (District 6), To Hien Thanh street (District 10), Lam Son, Minh Phung and Han Hai Nguyen (District 11).
On Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street, there is a street vender selling xiu mai ha cao and it is always crowed in 40 years. Being different normal xiu mai, xiu mai is wrapped into the flour and put into the bread with soy sauce and chili. Based on the secret recipe, xiu mai in here has a special favor. The price for a loaf of banh mi xiu mai is 17,000 to 20,000VND.
